Redesigned User Interface

The Online Editor user interface has been fully updated with a modern and responsive design, providing an improved user experience with even more added features from the previous Meta Online Editor.  

Whether you are using the system on a laptop or widescreen monitor, the Online Editor dynamically adjusts to ensure the you can easily view all core elements of information.   



Customizable Workspaces


With the new Online Editor, you have the freedom to tailor your workspace to your unique preferences, enabling you to work more efficiently and effectively in a way that works best for you.


For example, if you are working on a project that involves an increased focus on the video and timeline only, you can select the 'Player and Timeline' workspace that prioritizes those two elements, and hides the others. Additionally, if you prefer to have the video player on the right-side of the screen, with the text module on the left - you can select one of the 'Mirror' workspace options.




Furthermore, you have the ability to adjust and fine-tune the pre-set workspace settings according to your needs. You can add or remove modules, reposition them, and adjust their size as necessary. Once you have created your ideal workspace, you can easily save it as a 'Custom Workspace' for quick access. Meta will store this saved workspace, and it will automatically be applied the next time you log in, allowing you to pick up where you left off and continue working with minimal interruption.


The new Online Editor's customizable workspaces empower you to work smarter and more efficiently. We believe that this functionality will significantly improve your user experience and help you achieve your goals with greater ease and speed.


Improved Player Controls


The new Online Editor features a wide range of new and improved player settings, allowing for greater control and customization over the video playback. One major enhancement is the ability to control the playback speed, which can be useful for editing, reviewing, or studying content at your own pace. You can adjust the playback speed by choosing from a range of options, from 15% to 400%.


Another new feature is the subtitle preview style, which allows you to choose from different styles and sizes of subtitles to fit your preferences. You can also adjust the size and position of the subtitles on the preview screen. 

Please not this is for preview within the Online Editor only, and will not affect the output file or final subtitle style.


Additionally, the new player controls allow you to choose which specific titles are previewed, such as translation text (either language if this is a dual stream task), reference text, or none. This can help you to focus on specific elements of the content, or to customize the viewing experience to your needs.



New Timeline Module


We have added Timeline module to the new Online Editor. This provides an alternative method of reviewing the timings and translations as well as an easy method of retiming subtitle translations. This allows you to drag a whole subtitle, or just extend or decrease the start/end time. Additional use of the mouse scroll wheel and keyboard shortcuts allows you to adjust and view various aspects of the timeline.


You can also choose what information you want displayed on the timeline - Translated Text, Reference Text, In/Out Cues etc.




Visible Waveform

Within the Timeline module, the new Online Editor can also display waveform information.

The waveform is a graphical representation of the audio that is included in the video. Within the timeline of an online editor, the waveform appears as a visual representation of the audio track, with a series of peaks and valleys that correspond to the changes in volume of the audio.


Displaying the waveform on the timeline will allows users to easily identify where different sounds or words occur in the audio track, which can be helpful for editing and repositioning purposes. You can control the zoom amount on the time, and drag/drop the subtitle to line up exactly with where the character dialogue begins and ends, by reviewing the audio waveform.


Shot Change Indication and Validation

Within the Timeline module, users will be able to view shot change information. These will be indicated by the blue vertical markers along the top of the timeline.

The inclusion of shot changes will allow for increase accuracy when looking to reposition subtitles - especially for projects or languages where there may be strict guidelines surrounding the timings of subtitles leading up to, overlapping and coming out of a scene change.



Enhanced Validation Tools


The Enhanced Validation Tools in the new Online Editor provide a comprehensive list of criteria to ensure precise and accurate subtitle management. The system allows users to apply different validation values depending on either their individual preferences, project guidelines or language restrictions. 

The Online Editor alerts users to any errors that require their attention, and they can easily amend and update the content accordingly. In some cases, the system automatically corrects the errors to the closest legal value, saving the user time and effort.


Additionally, the navigation arrows within the Validation module allows users to easily jump to each title where a validation error has occurred, allowing for efficient review and editing. The enhanced validation tools not only ensure higher quality subtitles but also provide a smoother review process for the user. 


Via the Overview Module, the online editor will also provide a detailed validation report once the subtitles have been completed, giving the user clear visibility 



Additional Keyboard Shortcuts


With the increased number of keyboard shortcuts in the new Online Editor, users can now work more efficiently and quickly. By assigning commonly used functions to shortcuts, users can save time navigating through the different modules and functionalities, and reduce the need to constantly switch between the keyboard and mouse.


In addition to the increase in the number of available shortcuts, the new Online Editor allows users to customize and assign their own preferred key bindings to almost any function or module. This flexibility is especially helpful for users who prefer to work with specific shortcuts that are not part of the default settings, or who are used to a different set of shortcuts from another software.


New Glossary of Terms Module

The Glossary Module in the new Online Editor is an essential feature for subtitle translation tasks. It enables the display of all the approved key names, phrases, and glossary terms along with their translations. These terms are either provided by clients or created using EIKON's Glossary application that is used for managing, translating, and approving all the known terms within a title or franchise.


The inclusion of the Glossary Module in the Online Editor provides a more efficient way of advising translators of the preapproved translations that they should use. By having access to an up-to-date and accurate list of approved terms, directly within the Online Editor, translators can efficiently ensure consistency and accuracy in their work. 


With the Glossary module, translators can easily search for terms and their translations, reducing the time spent on research, and ensuring that translations are consistent throughout the project. This can lead to higher quality translations, a better overall user experience, and a more streamlined localization process.


Redesigned Job Information Panel


The newly designed Project and Task information panel, provides a streamlined and efficient way to manage and track your work within the Online Editor. It provides users with important job-related details, including the project name, part/reel, job language, job type, job ID, and project frame rate. This information is useful for keeping track of the progress of your work and ensuring that you are working on the correct project and task.



Pressing the Home button will automatically save your work and return you to the Meta home page.


The Events button displays a list of all previous Online Editor tasks that have been completed within this part/reel and language. This information can be helpful for tracking the history of a project and identifying the order of events that may have occurred. Any Job level comments are also displayed here, along with details as to who and when the task was completed.




The Change Job Status button is where you can confirm task completion and optionally leave comments about your work. 

If this is an Approval /Proofing you are approving or proofreading a task, you will be asked to indicate whether the file is approved or not. If you are not approving a task, please leave comments indicating what changes you would like made.



When you are ready to close and complete the task, simply select the Submit and Change Status button. 

You will then be automatically redirected back to the Meta home page, and the next task in the workflow will open.
